Public Policy Analyst-Greenfield Labs/Mobility Solutions/FSM
Job Description The Greenfield Labs team is working to transform the urban transportation experience using human-centered design. Working closely with Ford Smart Mobility, Greenfield Labs is a small but highly capable and fast-moving team designing, developing, and testing new products and services that help people make the best of multimodal transportation systems in cities around the world. We are looking for candidates to join us this summer in our journey to deliver ground-breaking products and services that support the meaningful movement of humans in cities. The Public Policy Analyst will work with various multidisciplinary teams and support the Lab’s Mobility Partnerships Lead. The ideal candidate will have some experience in public policy, transportation policy, and research as well as a clear passion in these areas. You will have the opportunity to assist in building a case for human-centered infrastructure and mobility options, and will work closely with a small but dynamic team of researchers, designers, and engineers in this pursuit.
Support Mobility Partnerships Lead/Manager on public policy related issues, including assisting in crafting proposals, interfacing/relationship building with public officials and other stakeholders, and liaising across the industry to influence strategic direction.
Provide guidance and insight to designers and project leads on public policy issues, including helping to shape solutions with a blend of policy knowledge and human centered design principles.
Research, synthesize, design, and present thoughtful frameworks portraying potential transportation futures and human-centered street and mobility design.
Brainstorm creative solutions for meaningful interaction between mobility stakeholders, public spaces, and local communities.
Work cross-functionally with product research and design teams through contribution of public policy domain knowledge.
Support effective interface with Ford and FSM public policy experts and stakeholders (i.e., Government Relations, Mobility Strategy, et al)
Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering or Transportation Design
6 months+ of experience in field work in a non-profit organization
Master’s degree in Public Policy, Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering, Transportation Design or a related field
Knowledge of public policy issues impacting cities, automotive and mobility organizations
Experience, interest, and commitment to learning and using design thinking / human centered design principles, strategies, and frameworks
Basic understanding of transportation planning, research, and analysis principles
Enthusiasm for brainstorming, creative thinking, and participatory design
Self-starter with penchant for working both independently and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team
Experience creating policy papers
Experience building relationships with public officials, NGOs, non-profits, etc.
Compelling leadership behaviors; comfortable with ambiguity and working in “white space”
Empathetic listener, gifted in translating human wants into well designed solutions
Ability to work laterally across multiple business projects simultaneously
Gifted communicator across multiple stakeholders with experience of delivering material in a way that engages the audience
