Position Description/Overview:

Ford Motor Credit Company seeks an attorney to join its legal team in Dearborn, Michigan and support the Ford Credit Canada Company business operations.


Responsibilities:

  • Manage legal risk by anticipating exposure, implementing or expanding preventive measures to ensure compliance and avoid costs, increasing employee awareness, and improving Company decision-making
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Ford Credit Legal Office in both Canada and the United States to provide practical legal advice that demonstrates a strong understanding and application of the law to Ford Credit’s business
  • Support the core business of Ford Credit Canada while also participating on cross functional project teams in both Canada and the United States
  • Provide strategic advice to generate business opportunities and provide solutions that increase shareholder value

Job Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) Degree or Canadian equivalent
  • Membership in good standing of a US state bar and meets the eligibility requirements under the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct to provide legal services to Ford Credit in Michigan
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Upper Canada (called to the Ontario Bar)
  • 1+ years of experience in a large law firm or corporate law department

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Canadian laws and regulatory framework for retail and lease financing
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial consumer finance laws in Canada
  • Knowledge of federal and state consumer finance laws in the United States
  • Excellent negotiating and drafting skills
  • Excellent issue-spotting and analytical skills
  • Ability to function effectively and collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team
  • Strong client counseling skills, from both the legal and business perspectives, with the ability to differentiate between the two and provide sound, practical advice
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal skills
  • Strong academic credentials
  • Comfort with changing business and legal/regulatory environment
  • Attention to detail, continuous improvement, learning, and innovative mind set
