Tool Engineer Position Duties:

  • Lead implementation of specifications and improvement to tooling systems for Engine Machining, Tool Cribs and Cutter
  • Interface with Product engineering, Machine Tool Builders, Tooling Supplier
    Support Daily Plant Production Operations
  • Develop tooling engineering documentation to support machining processes.
  • Lead purchase notification/ requisition activities and track commitments to approved funding.
  • Review and approve tool layouts, tool drawings
  • Support equipment runoffs, machine tryouts, and plant launches.
  • Develop tool change procedures, tool setup procedures & visual aids for operators.
  • Populate, configure and verify functionality of tool management system.
  • Install and runoff tool setup equipment at machine builder and plant.
  • Setup and organize tool crib facility & equipment & cutter grind facility & equipment.
  • Develop and implement Tool rework strategy.
  • Lead tooling meeting cost, quality, and timing objectives.
  • Lead resolution of tool performance issues.
  • Learn all applicable Ford Motor Company system (CPAR, MEARS, WERS etc)
  • Complete cost and timing studies for new program or expansion program
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Detailed and task oriented.
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience managing OEMs and support areas work.
  • Experience in design, application, and specification of cutting tools and abrasives

Basic Qualification:

  • High Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years of tooling experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • 1+years’ experience in Microsoft Office Applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering
  • Experience in round part machining (grinding – turning – polishing – cleaning
  • Experience in square part machining ( milling – boring – honing – drilling – taping)
  • Experience in-line and CNC machining
  • Experience in gaging / GD&T / CMM
  • Successful candidate should be able to demonstrate leadership in One FORD (leadership) behaviors combined with outstanding interpersonal, teambuilding, and communication skills
