Chief Designer position offered by Ford Motor Company (Irvine, CA). Manage creation and development of design teams in support of creating complete exterior vehicle lines and components within design frameworks based on approved product plans, established design principals, and industry product trends. Manage teams towards contribution and implementation of exterior design themes and developments towards the overall strategic design vision of Lincoln and Ford brands. Responsible for evaluating and establishing design objectives for and across vehicle product lines including degree of change, interchangeability, design themes, and development of design feature innovations. Responsible for presenting design proposals to senior management and coordinating team efforts in vehicle exterior design problem solution development. Serve as key interface with engineering, manufacturing, and product planning functions responsible for product development, integration and issue resolution. Responsible for identifying team knowledge gaps, and recommending, planning, and implementing training and development solutions for subordinate management and employees. Provide leadership direction on human resources cycle plan processes including employee survey analysis, performance management, succession planning, competency assessments, employee development discussions, and compensation planning.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in industrial design or a related field.
  • 6 years of experience in the job offered or 6 years of creative design experience working in a product environment covering all stages of the automotive design process from customer archetype identification and product ideation to product concept maturation and production feasible design delivery in multiple global regions.
  • 3 years of experience conducting design modeling and surface delivery.
  • 3 years of experience using the Autodesk suite of surface and polygon modeling tools.
  • 3 years of experience using 2D design tools, including Autodesk Sketchbook Pro and Studio Paint, Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • 3 years of experience using CAD visualization and interactive immersion tools, including Autodesk VRED.
  • 2 years of design and design feasibility experience involving complex and innovative vehicle systems, including alternative powertrain vehicles.
  • 2 years of design and design feasibility experience involving complex vehicle upper bodies.
  • 2 years of experience developing design processes to support delivery of design themes.
  • 2 years of experience leading scheduling, timing and work flow across a design organization.
  • 1 year of experience developing design proposals while evaluating, considering and incorporating feasibility proposals critical to product performance and quality.
  • Experience may be, but need not be, acquired concurrently
