RIC Palo Alto is a research lab within Ford that is focused on advanced research/innovation in both automotive and mobility businesses. At RIC PA you will find co-located cross-functional teams from Product Development, Marketing Sales & Service, Design, and IT. Here you have an opportunity to create and/or test advanced Technology and/or break-through Business Innovation. Smart Mobility is the prevailing theme for the work being conducted at RIC PA.

This position is a Software and Computing Research Technical Leader, and as such is part of the Ford IT Technical Specialist program.

IT’s mission at RIC Palo Alto is multi-pronged: 1) Perform full-stack software, edge, cloud, and datacenter based research and innovation, 2) Work on cross-skill team projects, and 3) Support Ford’s Research & Advanced Engineering and Marketing Sales &Service personnel in the facility.

  • Establish and develop a focused software and computing technology research team located in Palo Alto. Provide software and computing leadership for the site.
  • Create new IT enabled products and services with potential for end customer deployment.
  • Be the voice of Ford IT externally for software and computing technologies.
  • Be a change agent for Ford global adoption of emerging software and computing technologies.
  • Perform full-stack software, edge, cloud and datacenter based research and innovation.
  • Conduct software and computing technology and methodology proof of concepts, pilots, and experiments.
  • Engage universities, technology partner companies, and start-ups to identify and assess emerging opportunities for technology/methods change. Create alliances as required.
  • Direct cross-functional projects/products leveraging latest Agile software practices and tools.
  • Consult with internal partners regarding any needed changes to architecture blueprints, technologies, and reference architectures affecting software development.
  • Ensure and maintain understanding of latest trends and best practices affecting software development.
  • Consult with various teams developing software across Ford and our supply chain.

Job Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 10+ years of hands-on software development experience.
  • 5+ years of software and computing technical research and technology

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of IT Operating Model/Service Management constructs
  • 5+ years’ established network of research and technology company contacts in Silicon Valley.
  • 10+ years displaying the ability to influence co-workers and corporate leadership of ideas with track record of progressing those ideas through to actual implementation.
  • MS Engineering or Computer Science; PhD
  • Experience with traditional and embedded s/w development projects
  • Experience with Agile s/w development methods / tools
  • Experience with mobile s/w development environments / tools
  • Experience progressing ideas through product/services life cycle
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with business users and IT professionals including globally distributed teams; the ability to adjust communications appropriately for the audience; work with all levels of management and diverse work groups.
  • Motivated self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset.
