Ford Motor Company, a leading manufacturer of automobiles and automotive products, is searching for a highly skilled and motivated candidate in the area of electric powertrain testing to support development of current and future hybrid electric and battery electric vehicles in its Electric Drive Dynamometer and High Voltage Test Lab. You will partner with Electrified Powertrain Engineering engineers to frame the right questions and design research programs that lead us to new insights. With your creative and analytical mind, you will use key insights to frame new opportunity spaces and guide the experience vision for our future global customers. Our diverse Global Electrified Powertrain Engineering Team – situated in greater Detroit, Dunton and Nanjing - is comprised of Electrified Powertrain Engineering test engineers, researchers, calibration engineers, hardware designers, software designers, industrial designers, prototypers, and project managers. Together our team works to understand our changing world, identify new opportunities, and take action to design and innovate for the future of mobility – Ford’s vehicles and surrounding experiences.
Testing of inverter systems, electrical machines and operating supporting auxiliary test systems and test facility equipment
Operation of test cells with variable frequency drives, battery simulators, active/passive loads and thermal chambers
Electric machine and inverter system heating and cooling control under test.
Microcontroller operation and interface
CAN/Ethernet based communications
Configuration of data acquisition systems to measure temperature, voltage, current, electrical and mechanical power, speed, torque, vibration, pressure and others
Configuration and execution of manual and automated tests
Post processing test data and generating test reports
Ensure overall quality of project solutions throughout the design process
Share and present work to cross-functional teams and executive leadership
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical or Automotive Engineering)
2+ years of work experience in a test laboratory environment working with power systems and or power electronics/electric machines
2+ years of experience with one of the following test and measurement equipment: data acquisition, oscilloscopes, motor controllers or variable frequency drives
Master’s or higher degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Mechanical Engineering (MSEE or MSME)
3 years of experience in electric machines, motor drives, motor controls and calibration, motor and inverter cooling systems, and electromechanical interaction of electric drives
3 years of experience related to testing motor drive systems including: design verification testing, thermal testing, durability testing, and test automation
Familiarity with energy control-power lock out, arc flash and high voltage safety training / best practices
Knowledge of ISO test equipment calibration requirements / practices and quality standards
Knowledge of 5D and FMEA methods
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Excellent documentation skills
Proficient computer skills with Matlab & MS Office products
Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple tasks
